You just might have a problem that I understand.

I find great satisfaction in  helping individuals who are dealing with panic, anxiety, depression , trauma, or coping with chronic medical illness. I prefer to focus my efforts on the treatment of problems with which I have enjoyed the greatest success. Most of my patients are referred to me by their physicians. Treatment is a partnership between myself and the individual. The sessions are interactive and often lively. My professional experience has led me to function collaboratively to bring to life the inner strengths of each person with whom I have the pleasure of working.

My Path and Approach –

I grew up in a small farming community in Michigan. My Masters is in counseling which shaped my ability to relate to my patients and understand their perspective. My first job was as an addictions counselor where I was the token behavioral therapist.. While I was learning how to do psychotherapy I also began my training in meditation. This was a fortuitous opportunity to delve more deeply into my own mind and those of others trapped in serious addiction. After a brief time in private practice doing biofeedback, I was accepted into the neurocognition program at CUNY where I completed training in clinical neuropsychology and clinical psychophysiology (biofeedback). I continued to be deeply committed to meditative practices while I received training in clinical neuropsychology. I then worked in a residential setting with individuals who had emerged from coma. Then a rare opportunity arose to help start a company that used my dissertation research and computerized EEG brain maps, to test new pharmaceutical products prior to obtaining FDA approval.

When that company went public, I decided to leave the pharmaceutical industry and go back to my love of doing psychotherapy. For almost 20 years I worked with a psychiatrist partner to develop the Stress Medicine Group which at one point had 17 clinicians practicing together. I eventually struck out on my own in 2006 and entered solo practice. I love what I do. I have been meditating now for almost 50 years now and credit it for much of my joy in living. Recently have been recovering from long-COVID. I resist retirement, but have had to cut my practice to half-time as part of regaining my strength.

Out of Network Claims

If I am not in your insurance plan you can call the carrier and inquire about your Out-of-Network benefits. Usually there will be a deductible amount to be met before the carrier pays claims. If I am not in your network I will direct that any payments be sent to you.

Some carriers and plans use a separate company for any Mental Health claims and I may be a part of that secondary network. In almost all cases my fees are within the usual and customary rates dictated by the major insurance carriers. That means you should receive your full benefit from the carrier.
